During his lifetime, farmer Glenn Krog made a decision that will benefit his community of Lake Benton for years to come. When asked why, he simply said, “I love Lake Benton.”
He donated his farmland to the Lake Benton Area Foundation, a local community foundation partner of Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF), retaining the right to farm or rent the land during his lifetime, then passing along that right to a longtime friend. It’s called a Retained Life Estate, and it ensured the land was handled the exact way Glenn wanted – first helping a friend, then helping the community he loved.
Glenn continued to farm until just prior to his passing in 2019. Check out Glenn’s story shared on MinnPost and learn how we’re helping farmers like him keep farmland locally owned and operated in southwest Minnesota.
